Hmmm - so I am *very* late with my September round up, I blame a busy October for that, and as that doesn't improve for a little while yet here's a quick summary of my bookish September!
I read quite a bit in September but there were only two real standout books, both new fiction.
I was pleasantly surprised by Louisa Young's The Golden Years as it is an official sequel to a series of books (The Cazalet Chronicles) and so often these just don't quite hold up. I'm not sure if it is because Young is actually related to Elizabeth Jane Howard and the books were based on Howard's real family or if Young is just super talented but the book was really like picking up from where the originals left off and I spent several happy days back with literary friends.
The second book was by an author I'm aware of but had never read - Solace in Winter by Mary Lawson. Set in a small Canadian town in the depths of winter it is a deceptively simple book about nursing someone back to health following a car crash but for all that it really worked its way into my heart and by the end I was an emotional wreck. I have to look out for more of Lawson's books ASAP (well as soon as by TBR pile is a little more under control!)
Reading Around the World book group when to Italy this month and while no one picked the same titles a few people picked the same authors so we had some good discussions around this.
Away from book group I read from 10 countries (and some multiple times due to publishing schedules) but new to me this month were books from Malta, Laos, Latvia, Guinea Bissau, Venezuela, & Liechtenstein.
October has already been a slower month book-wise due to busy weekends and an unexpected trip to Rome, and a book that is taking a long time to get through.
